20 Years of Redefining the Barn: Where We Started and Where We’re Headed at New Standard Ag USA

News

While New Standard Ag is officially celebrating 20 years in business this year, anyone who works with us knows it goes much deeper than that. To us, this milestone marks 20 years of true partnership and community with the producers who feed the world. We founded New Standard Ag on the belief that animal welfare and producer profitability go hand-in-hand. Today, two decades later, that core philosophy still guides everything we do.

Earning Our Boots

We officially started on June 5, 2006, with a straightforward goal: to focus on smart engineering and producer education rather than just moving equipment. Right from the start, we wanted to help prove that a low-stress environment for livestock directly connects to a healthier bottom line for the producer.

In 2007, the folks at Eagle Creek Colony trusted us to design a large-scale group housing and Electronic Sow Feeding (ESF) system. That same year, we had the opportunity to create advanced tunnel ventilation models for turkey finishing down in South Dakota. We knew back then that trust in this industry isn’t given, it has to be earned right there in the barn.

Over the next few years, our designs faced plenty of real-world testing. We were incredibly proud when our 2009 design for the Red Willow sow barn even drew a visit from the South Dakota Governor, and by 2012, major operations like Thomas Livestock in Nebraska were trusting us with their layouts. Those early projects shaped who we are today, and we will forever be grateful to the producers who trusted us in those foundational years.

Becoming Who We Are Today

As your operations grew, we realized we needed to grow too. In 2018, we moved to our new facility in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Having a accessible, physical location in the Northern Plains meant we could stock more parts on the shelves and get technicians to your site faster, because we know exactly how much a few hours of downtime can cost a barn.

We also wanted to create a space to share what we were learning. We started The Modern Producer magazine and podcast simply to pass along global data, research, and tech trends directly to the people who could use them on the ground. While we’ve stepped away from the magazine and podcast, we’re keeping that commitment alive through a new monthly blog where we can continue sharing helpful tips, industry trends, and honest conversations about what’s working in the barns today.

Looking To The Future

As we enter our third decade, our promise remains unchanged: to design barns that optimize animal welfare, to source the most reliable automated systems on the market, and to stand by you with the parts and service needed to keep your operations running smoothly.

Thank you for the last 20 years of trust, challenges, and shared success.
